OTMS (44)

An entry of 42 Otm cattle this week selling to an overall average of 135.60ppkg. Topping the section was W.R Jones, Henfache, with a British Blue cow weighing 877kg making £1622.45 (185ppkg). Cows 48-72 months toped at £1322.76 (146ppkg) from J A Williams, Llechwedd-Ddyrys for a 906kg Charolais Cow. 1 Steer presented by Evans Bros, Tynewydd weighed 589kg which made 1054.31 (179ppkg).

OTM cows averaged 129.89ppkg / £845.73

Cows 48 – 72 months averaged 141.68ppkg / £1018.71

Steers 48 – 72 months averaged 179ppkg / 1054.31

Heifers under 48 months averaged 136.89ppkg / £824.84

Steers under 48 months averaged 148.87ppkg / £850.77

Overall average of 123.20ppkg

PRIME LAMBS (2894)

An entry of 2894 prime lambs selling to an average of 181.31ppkg.

Lights (352) to 210ppkg from R J Roberts, Dysefin Farm. Others to 203ppkg from B W Morris, Hoarstone & RT & J Edwards, Llechwedd Ystrad. Average of 194.20ppkg

Standards (600) to 238ppkg from M Pryce, Broomhill. Others to 202ppkg from EH Pennie & Son, Gwern-Yr-Ychain. Average of 181.33ppkg

Mediums (1693) to 230ppkg from S Smith, Pentre Farm Cottage. Others to 213ppkg from L Harding, Swn-Y-Gwynt. Average of 179.45ppkg

Heavies (243) to 200ppkg from DP Casewell, Tanrhiw. Others to 196ppkg from HG Ellis Tynywern, Average of 181.25ppkg

CULL SHEEP (2040)

Today we saw a slightly reduced entry of 1982 ewes, which achieved an average of £57 which was up by £8. Ewes topped at £99 presented by GV Williams, Tynewydd, Llangwyryfan, Dyfed. A smaller entry of 29 Rams achieved an average of £80 which was £26 up on the previous week. Demand was strong throughout on the well fleshed ewes.

COUPLES

A slightly reduced entry of Hoggs and Lambs this week, although still some very good quality sheep on offer for purchasers.

Mr F Bailey, Pensarn sold Texel x Hoggs with Charollais lambs at foot to £166 with white faced mule Hoggs from the same home selling from £140 - £162.

J V Davies & Co, Garth Fawr presented a run of 36 white face Mule Hoggs with single lambs at foot selling from £134 - £148 white R T Davies & Son, Bwlchgarreg sold a Mule Hogg with a Beltex lamb at foot to £140.

COWS & CALVES

An entry of 40 cows and calves this week selling for a top of £2400 for a Limousin x 1st calver with her Limousin Heifer Calf also a Limousin 1st Calver but with a Bull Calf at foot both presented by DP & RE Evans, Moelygarth Farm. 6 Outfits forward for DP & RE Evans Moelygarth averaged £2180. Another high priced cow & calf was presented by H.A & R.A Davies, Genau Hafod which was a Limousin X Cow with a Heifer Calf making £2280. A breakdown of all priced achieved were as follows: £2200+ 4 lots, £2000 – £2200 2 lots, £1800 – £2000 6 lots, £1600 – £1800 2 lots, £1400 – £1600 7 lots, £1200 – £1400 6 lots, £1000 – £1200 6 lots & <£1000 7 lots

3 Pedigree Limousin Bulls entered within the cow & calf section 1 from IP Jones, Penygraig made top price of £2000 also 1 from H E Pugh, Grove farm fetching £1900 and 1 from E R Harris, Pantycaragle making £1650

Store Cattle

An entry of 145 Store Cattle which averaged across the board 206.73ppkg or £929.68 for Steers and 208.65ppkg or £809.92 for Heifers. Leading the way with top price per head were:
