Big week at Golf Club

Welshpool Golf Club ladies Margaret Bowen (16) and Ann Newell (18), beat Church Stretton on Saturday in the Daily Mail foursomes 5&4 to go through to the next round of the competition. 

On Saturday Welshpool men played Llanidloes at home in the Montgomeryshire Golf League winning by 246 points to 200. 

Those men not playing in league were able to compete in the fifth round of the President's Cup. Dan Stephens (5) won with 37 points, Mark Bell (11) was 2nd on count-back with 34 points from Mark Fletcher (5) also on 34 points.

Sunday heralded the best weather of the week and a fitting backdrop for the always popular AM/AM competition for teams of four comprising both men and women.

Including visitors, a total of 27 teams competed and some fine golf was played. The winners were Kevin Morris, Dale Hardy, Steve Proctor and Mark Hughes with a combined score of 121 points.

For the seniors, the Captain's Trophy bogey competition was played on Tuesday. The runaway winner was Sue Jones (15) with +5, coming 2nd was Anne Newell (18) scoring evens pushing Keith Roberts into 3rd place on count-back . 

On Thursday, a seniors' mixed team played a match at Lakeside, going down 4 to 2 with one match being halved.
