Newly promoted Forden United FC have dropped a bombshell by withdrawing from the Spar Mid Wales League and will not compete at any level next season.

The village team won the Montgomeryshire Amateur League second division last season and successfully applied to join the Spar League but has been unable to recruit a new manager since the end-of-season resignation of Neil Breeze.

Club officials today confirmed that with players leaving for other clubs and no managerial replacement on the horizon the club is being mothballed for a season.

A statement from club vice chairman Shane Clee reads:

“It is with great regret that Forden United has now decided not to enter the Spar Football League. After an overwhelming three years and the success this year becoming champions of our respective league, it is with a heavy heart that we have had to put the club on the back burner for time being.

“This unfortunate decision was reached after the loss of many players who have moved on to other clubs as well as not being able to fill the vacant manager’s position. The club remains financially sound with a stable committee.

“I would like to thank the departed manager Neil Breeze, our committee, The Square & Compass, the players and especially Graham and Sandra Meredith for the endless work they have done behind the scenes.”
