Welshpool schools consultation September

The future of primary school delivery in Welshpool will be the subject of a major consultation exercise in the town starting in September.

The work which will run during September and October will include a public meeting at the town’s high school on September 20.

Earlier this year Powys County Council agreed proposals with local stakeholders to establish two new schools as part of a review of the town’s existing infant, junior and primary schools.

The schools in the review are:

Ysgol Maesydre

Gungrog Nursery and Infant Church in Wales School (pictured)

Ardwyn Nursery and Infant School

Oldford Nursery and Infant School

The review, which started in 2014, is proposing a new English-medium Church in wales school on a site near Welshpool High School and a new Welsh-medium community primary school on the current Ysgol Maesydre site.

A strategic outline case proposing the closure of the existing schools and the building of the new schools has been accepted by the Welsh Government under its 21st Century Schools programme.

As part of the work consultation on the reconfiguration of the schools will be held by the county council between September 5 and October 18 with a public meeting at the school on September 20 from 6.30 to 8.30pm.

Entry to the event, which is open to pupils, parents, governors and the community, will be by free tickets which will be available from the county council’s website www.powys.gov.uk or by phone from late August. The actual date of ticket release will be confirmed nearer the time.
