It's a "YES" from Powys - Aldi store given green light

Powys County Council has given the go-ahead for an Aldi store to be built in Welshpool.

Fears that the planning application would be delayed by Welsh Government were allayed last week after a “holding order” was released and developers immediately moved onto the site to clear away mounds of rubble which had remained since the closure of the sheep pens.

Welsh Government had placed the holding order pending a response from the developers to certain questions. But Powys Council confirmed the order had been lifted and today announced that full planning permission had now been approved for the store.

Welshpool Town Council recently backed the plans for the new Aldi supermarket to be built on the site alongside the Smithfield Bell.

The Town Council’s planning, development and environment committee voted unanimously to support the plans after hearing the views of members of the public and receiving a presentation from the supermarket company.
