More cases of measles have been reported in Montgomeryshire as health official urge more people to take precautions.

There is no specific treatment for measles but symptoms can be alleviated. As measles is caused by a virus, antibiotics are ineffective although these may be prescribed if a secondary bacterial infection develops.

Locally though concern is rising after there was one local case of hospitalisation reported in the last month.

“Anyone who hasn’t had the free MMR vaccine yet is urged to contact their GP. It is available for both children and adults,” said a spokesperson for Powys Teaching Health Board.

“Measles is highly infectious. If you think you have it then please ring ahead if you are seeking advice or treatment from a GP practice or hospital.”
