Just a week after Go Judo team mate Ffion Lovatt medalled at the British School Games, Seren Lovatt (on podium, left) picked up a silver at the 'Heart of England' Judo Championships.

The Level 3&4 British Ranking Event is one of the biggest tournaments of the year and

Seren, from Welshpool, fought her way to the final of the pre-Cadets category with some outstanding judo.

And she came within a whisker of winning gold, missing out in a long contest through the golden score to settle for silver.

Ffion fought in the Cadets category and, after winning her first fight, she lost out in the repechage contest. Joshua Whitehouse, also from Welshpool, finished fifth in the Cadet boys category against some tough experienced fighters.

“These competitions are all stepping stones for Go Judo to get ready for the British Championships in Sheffield in December,” said head coach Pete Castell of Go Judo who can be contacted on 01691831874 or go.judo@yahoo.com for anyone wanting to get into the sport.
