Was the Buttington farm fire arson? Police have revealed a second blaze broke out 20 minutes earlier.

Dyfed Powys Police is asking anyone with information about the Buttington blaze and another fire at Garthmyl in the early hours of Saturday morning to come forward.

The blaze at Buttington was reported at 3-35am with a large straw stack well ablaze. Motorists faced hours of diversions with the Welshpool-Shrewsbury road closed as firefighters fought to control the fire.

But 20 minutes earlier at 3-15am firefighters were also called to Garthmyl where they found a barn well alight containing agricultural vehicles.

A Dyfed Powys Police spokesperson said: “Police are investigating the fires in conjunction with the Fire Service, and are asking anyone who was travelling in either area on that morning, or anyone who has any information, to contact police by calling 101.”
