Welshpool Town Council has got on with tidying up the town, and the early results are promising.

The council took on the street scene services from Powys last week at a cost of around £5 per year per household, but a quick look at previous trouble spots will show that an impact is being made.

“The roads around Union Street leading to St Mary’s Church have been cleared of weeds,” said Town Clerk Robert Robinson. “Berriew Street has had its first vacuum clean and the weeds to the main road part of Union Street have been cleared. The area around the path opposite the Tourist Information Centre has also been cleared of weeds. The programme of catch up will continue up to Christmas.”

Workers have also spruced up the Memorial Garden ahead of this weekend’s Remembrance festival (pictured).
