Consultation on changes to a plan that guides the scale and location of new development in the Welshpool area will close next week.

Public consultation on Further Focussed Changes (FFCs) within the Local Development Plan (LDP), which was approved by the council’s cabinet in September, will close on November 21.

The LDP will guide the scale and location of new development in the county, excluding the Brecon Beacons National Park, up until 2026.

The FFCs relate to housing viability, delivery of housing numbers and gypsy and traveller accommodation.  Renewable energy, including local search areas that have been identified for solar and wind energy, is also subject to the FFCs.

Cllr Avril York, Cabinet Member for Planning and Regeneration, said: “The Local Development Plan will be the most important planning document we have and we are determined to ensure we have a robust framework in place.  It is a policy for the long term and it important that we get it right for the future.”

The proposed Schedule of Further Focussed Changes and supporting Assessments/Appraisals are available for public inspection and a form for making representations is available, Monday – Friday at Neuadd Maldwyn, Welshpool. They are also available online and at all local libraries.

Anyone who has any queries about the consultation should contact the LDP Team by emailing ldp@powys.gov.uk.
