Local firm up for business award

A Welshpool company dedicated to helping local people own their dream home will be recognised for their achievements at a prestigious award ceremony.

Montgomeryshire Homes, which aims to provide quality homes for people who want to buy property in their local area, is shortlisted for a prize at the Achievement Wales Business Awards.

It will go head to head with a pop-up food business and a drone filming firm for the title of Business Start-up Award at the ceremony on Thursday at Bangor University.

The company was set up over two years ago to enable people from the area to stay here if they wish. To date it has completed a small development of 10 first-time buyer homes in Castle Caereinion (pictured) and is currently building a mixed development comprising of six large semi-detached houses and two bungalows in Castle Caereinion.

A further 23-house mixed development in Llansilin will begin in the new year.

Co-founder Richard Glover-Davies said he is pleased with what the firm has achieved so far, and is looking forward to providing more quality properties in the area.

“It was great to see the first 10 homes we built in Castle Caereinion sold to people from the local area, the majority of whom were first time buyers.

“There are some beautiful rural areas, like Castle Caereinion, where people have grown up but then can’t afford to buy their own property in. We feel strongly that local people should be able to settle down in the area they were brought up in. There are lots of hardworking and talented young people in mid Wales and if they want to stay here we want to help them do that.”

Mr. Glover-Davies added that Montgomeryshire Homes aims to take a sensitive approach to building and not ruin the rural landscape.

“As a farmer’s son, I love the countryside and big green open spaces, so I am always mindful that Montgomeryshire Homes should provide properties to meet local people’s needs whilst also creating attractive and appropriately sized developments from which homeowners can enjoy the lovely scenery.”
