An empty Welshpool shop frontage which has been the subject of rubbish dumping has been awarded a wooden spoon in the town’s annual Christmas Shop Window Competition.
The former Langfords Food Hall in Berriew Street was given the award by the Mayor Steve Kaye yesterday (Thursday) as the “worst shop window in town.”
The premises has been under the spotlight following a series of dumpings in Berriew Street which led to a public outcry and the Town Council forced to take action to clear the area.
The competition was won by Reflections in the High Street with Nailed It in Severn Street a close second and Serendipity in Berriew Street third. Highly Commended certificates went to the Bay Tree Tea Rooms and to Mehta Opticians.
“There were 43 entrants and the windows were wonderful with so much effort put in,” said Councillor Kaye after judging the awards. “I am proud of everyone who took part.”
