Montgomery to appoint Development Officer

Montgomery Town Council will appoint a Development Officer after winning grant funding from Powys County Council.

The three-year post will be funded by a £49,000 grant from PCC’s Arwain Fund which is a source of European money used to support rural development projects.

The Development Officer will work part-time and be key in delivering The Destination Montgomery Project and the Town Council says should ideally be a dynamic and outgoing person with experience in community engagement and event management.

“This project seeks to add to the sustainability of Montgomery, which relies heavily on tourism for its income by specifically encouraging those who visit the town to stay, or stay for longer,” said a Town Council spokesman.

“The role will be to develop Montgomery’s offer to include additional activities, based on the natural and built heritage of the area. Provide opportunities for SMEs within the town to develop and encourage stat-ups to meet currently unmet needs.”

The Development Officer's role is to coordinate increased tourism and awareness of what Montgomery offers as a destination, and also would seek additional funds from other sources to achieve the specific outcomes below;

To facilitate and lead on the delivery of the Destination Montgomery project for the Montgomery community in conjunction with project steering group.

Support the development of the Town Hall, including increasing lettings for community, social and commercial events.

Support the ongoing development of Montgomery as a wedding venue of choice, centred on the Town Hall.

Work with the Steering Group to develop and sustain a programme of attractions and events.

To facilitate and lead on the delivery of the Destination Montgomery project for the Montgomery community in conjunction with project steering group.

Support the development of the Town Hall, including increasing lettings for community, social and commercial events.

Work with a multi-disciplined Steering Group to develop and sustain a programme of attractions and events.

Build on the Walkers are Welcome scheme to develop and promote the Montgomery Trails as a sustainable local and visitor project.

to develop and maintain successful working relationships with other community groups within Montgomery in order to co-ordinate and progress delivery of the plan.

To maintain an awareness of current, future, potential and other avenues of funding  which could assist with the economic development and regeneration of Montgomery and delivery of the project.

To co-ordinate and attend monthly/bi-monthly meetings of the steering group

Ensure robust monitoring and reporting systems are in place.
