Welshpool Police Station is set to close, but only temporarily to allow some urgent works to be carried out.

There was a question mark hanging over the station at one point, but it now seems to have secured its long term future with the station to be closed for eight weeks under part of the force’s Police Estate Modernisation Programme.

Inspector Jonathan Tatton said: “This level of investment in Welshpool police station clearly demonstrates our commitment to keeping a local policing base in the town and our desire to ensure our facilities are fit for operational use for the future.

“It will house a number of police officers and police staff who together, will continue to keep the public safe. These works will ensure that we are able to provide the highest standards of service to our communities in the Welshpool area.”

The Station will close from today (Wednesday) for approximately 8 weeks in order that the building may have some essential heating system and minor fabric works to be carried out.

During this time alternative arrangements will be in place for normal service to continue.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team will be based in the nearby Fire Station. The Public Call point outside the police station will be working as usual and officers will attend from the Fire Station when called.
