Work has begun on increasing the number of yellow lines on roads in and around Welshpool’s town centre.

Following an assessment, Powys County Council, under Welsh Government instruction, is carrying out the work with officials saying there is ample free parking available in the town.

Town Clerk Robert Robinson said: “There are new yellow lines and changes to parking arrangements in Welshpool over the next two weeks.

“The work is carried out by Powys County Council. I have had many enquiries about what is happening. The Town Council does have a set of the drawings in its offices, please feel free to call and inspect them if you are concerned or want to know how it might affect you.”

Mr Robinson stated that there are currently around 1,450 parking spaces in the town, taking into consideration Tesco’s three-hour scheme, and it is believed this new measure is to stop workers parking their cars all day on estates and other areas like the back road. Ten years ago there were around 800 parking spaces available.
