Powys County Council are expected to rubber stamp a proposal today that will transform the way that early years education is delivered in Welshpool.

The suggestion is to shut the current four primary schools and replace with two new schools, one of each for English and Welsh streams.

The new super English-medium Church in Wales school could be built near Welshpool High School on the Salop Road fields.

A report to Powys cabinet recommends Ardwyn, Grungrog, Oldford and Ysgol Maesydre nursery and infants schools are to run from the new location from September 2018.

The new Welsh medium primary school could also be created at the current Ysgol Maesydre site.
