Severn Trent announce pipe upgrade work

14/02/2017 @ 11:44

Severn Trent will be carrying out repairs on pipes in Welshpool next week to make sure residents have a water supply they can rely on.

The company will be replacing a number of valves on the water pipe beneath Severn Road between Howell Drive and the police station.

Some disruption is expected for around five days.

Gareth Mead, from Severn Trent, explained: “This is important work to make sure the valves on the pipe are fit for purpose and continue to provide everyone in Welshpool with a reliable source of fresh water.

“Over time, valves and pipes can become more prone to leaks and bursts – that’s why we’ve taken the decision to carry out this work now to help prevent any problems occurring in the future.”

The work is due to start next Monday and should take five days to complete. Temporarily traffic lights will be in place while the new valves are installed to make sure engineers from Amey can work safely.

“We’ll work as quickly as possible to minimise any local disruption this causes and we’ll be sure to allow access to local shops and businesses as much as possible,” Gareth added.

“This is essential work to upgrade the network in Welshpool and we hope local people will understand the benefits this will have.”
