Welshpool’s annual Poppy Appeal broke all previous records in 2016 with over £20,000 raised for the Royal British Legion.

The appeal was run separately from the Welshpool branch of the RBL during 2016 and Poppy Organiser Jan Williams has handed over £20,051 to the national organisation.

This amazing total smashed the 2015 record-breaking collection of over £16,000.

Mrs Williams issued a big “thank you” to all who supported the Poppy Appeal. “I would like to thank everyone who supported this year’s appeal, either by donating money or helping with the collection. Without your help none of this would have been possible.”

A long service award has also been presented to Mr John Gwilt for his 60 years support of the Welshpool branch of the RBL. He received the award from Arfon Williams, vice chairman of the Mid & South Wales RBL.
