The first time we have seen an ebtry of over 100 ewes with their lambs this year, but they were sold to a more difficult trade, which could probably be explained by the current weather conditions and many farmers still not sending couples out to grass. WA & EM Morris, Maestanyglwyden, again held top spot for 4 Texel ewes with twin Texel lambs that reached £155. DTM Jones, Minffordd sold two pens of 3 year old mules with their twin Texel lambs for £152 and £148 respectively. Other twins traded from £120 to £145 with the poorest twins selling to £100 to £118.

This week’s best singles sold to £109 with many over £100, the majority traded between £80 - £100.

More couples and in-lamb ewes expected next week, with the next catalogued sale of couples to take place on Monday 20th March. Please contact the mart office for entries.

The catalogued sale bought with it an increased entry of 134 in-lamb ewes that went under the hammer to a maximum clearance. A special entry of 76 hardy in-lamb yearling mules from Rhiwlas Farm, Rhiwlas, scanned with the majority carrying singles to a Lleyn ram hit £102, with the run averaging £89. Two pens of 7 full mouth mules from EG & SA Watkin, Pantyfalog, scanned twins to Texel x Charollais rams both sold for £78 respectively.

A seasonal entry of 9 cows and calves met with a fair trade for those presented. Leading the way at £2040 was a Pedigree Limousin 1st calver with a Limousin heifer calf presented by R I Owen & Co, Cwmffynon. From the same home was a Limousin x 1st calver with a heifer calf which sold for £1820. A British Blue x 1st calver with a Hereford x steer calf from A J Hough, Brynbuarth, sold at £1300.
