Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a sale at Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday

OTMS (28)

A similar entry of otms cows this week seeing otm cows top at £1107.83 (139ppkg) for a 797kg Blonde Cow from  TH & AB Jones, Barhedyn. E & H Chapman, Morfodion, presented a 642kg cow making £937.32 (146ppkg). Heifers under 48 months topped at £1452.99 (187ppkg) for a 777kg Limousin from CV & EM Lewis, Buttington New Hall.  WI Jones & Sons, Cilcwm Fawr, presented a 620kg Limousin making £954.80 (154ppkg).

Otm Cows (x20) averaged 120.54ppkg / £726.58.

Heifers under 48 months (x8) averaged 142.56ppkg / £883.

Overall average of 126.96ppkg – MORE CATTLE WANTED TO MEET DEMAND.

PRIME HOGGETS (2680)

An entry of 2680 prime lambs sold to an average of 170.96ppkg.

Lights (94) to 178ppkg & 170ppkg from J Pugh, New House Farm. Others to 163ppkg from A I Watkins, Maesywennol. Average of 169.45ppkg.

Standards (490) to 218ppkg from M C Davies, Lower Brynelen. Others to 186ppkg from DF Jones & Sons, Mwyars. Average of 170.92ppkg.

Mediums (670) to  260ppkg from H M Powell & Son, Whitehouse. Others to 240ppkg from H M Powell & Son, White House. Average of 171.15ppkg

Heavies (592) to 224ppkg from J Tudor, Bryn Awel. Others to 206ppkg from RAH Thomas, Ty Lissa. Average of  170ppkg.  

Over Weights (598) to 192ppkg from JR, RM & JP Andrew, Bronheulog . Others to 180ppkg from D Morgan, Alltcoch.  Average of 144.62ppkg.

PRIME LAMBS (786)

An entry of 786 Prime Lambs sold to an average of 220.85ppkg.

Lights (16) to 221ppkg from O & H Moyle, Brynunty. Average of 213.02ppkg.

Standards (232) to 261ppkg from R J Lunt, Planfa. Others to 239ppkg from B L Griffiths, Lower Penygelli. Average of 219.53ppkg.

Mediums (538) to 260ppkg from O T Evans, Delfryn & Il & OG Roberts, Y Ddol. Others to 259ppkg from EJ Rowley, Penthryn. Average of 221.54ppkg.

Heavies (10) to 209ppkg from MP Evans, Llwynbrain. Average of 204.62ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (1819)

A slightly smaller entry of culls this week seeing averages £56.37 for ewes and £78 for rams. Topping the ewe section at £126 for 3 ewes from TM & G Rees & Son, Cefngwyddil. T Ryder, Cae Traws, presented 5 ewes making £116. Rams topped at £118 from H M Powell & Son, Whitehouse.

COUPLES

The largest entry of couples WLS has seen for a good number of years!

934 ewes with their lambs went under the hammer selling to a flying trade !

The sale included an entry of 430 Higgs and lambs for the prize sale of 10 or more hoggs and lambs which was kindly sponsored by Greenlands Insurance and judged by previous winner Mr Aled Davies, Ty Brith.

Results of the prizes are as follows:

1st – 10 Coloured mule hoggs with 10 Texel x Beltex lambs presented by MJ & JM Price, Penycrug, Llanafan. Sold for £218.

2nd – 10 Texel x hoggs with 10 Beltex x lambs presented by EW Howells & Son, Oakwood, Llanfyllin, sold to £208.

3rd – 10 Coloured mule hoggs with 10 Texel x lambs presented by N Samuel, Lower Ystrad, Builth Wells, sold for £185.

As well as taking 1st place in the prize sale Messrs Price, Penycrug, took top price of the day with their prize winning hoggs at £218 with their run of 20 hoggs and lambs averaging a staggering £101/life.

£202 – 1 Texel hogg 1 lamb – D Morgan, Alltcoch.

£198 – 2 Beltex hoggs 2 lambs – TW Price & Morgan, Ty Rosser.

£196 – 1 Texel hogg 1 lamb – D Morgan, Alltcoch.

£196 – 6 Texel hoggs 10 lambs – EW Howells & Son, Oakwood.

40 hoggs sold averaging £166 per Couple.

The 500 older ewes also sold to a brisk trade toppinf at £202 for a Texel yearling ewe with twin texel lambs from D Morgan, Alltcoch. Others hit £188 for 5 mule yearlings with twin Texel lambs from JBC Gwillim, Bwlch Garth.

We thank both Vendors and Purchasers for there support. Sale of 500 couples next week – sale to commence at 11 am. Next catalogued sale to be held on Monday 15th May – entry forms available from the mart office.

COWS & CALVES

An entry of 8 cows and calves and 3 in-calf heifers this week topping at £2000 for a British Blue x 1st calver with her Limousin x male calf from AP & JE Jenkins, Pontyperchyll, also from the same home was a similar outfit making £1700. AT £1880 was a 2011 born Limousin cow with her limouisn x heifer calf from MB Nash, 56 Nordley, Bridgenorth. Also forward was a Pedigree Charolais bull from J S Vance, Upper Grimmer, making £2500. A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows: £2000 + 2 lots, £1600 - £2000 2 lots, £1200 - £1600 1 lot, £1000 - £1200 2 lots, <£1000 4 lots.
