Welshpool’s new B&M store has opted for the charity route when it officially opens its doors on Saturday morning.

While Aldi across the road used an Olympic medallist to perform the honours last month, B&M’s new staff members have chosen the Heulwen Trust to officially unveil the new store, as well as Deputy Mayor, Cllr Hazel Evans.

For their troubles, the charity representatives will receive £250 worth of B&M vouchers as a thank you.

The store manager, Darren Fountain, said: “The team from Heulwen Trust really stood out for us as they go the extra mile for the community, we wanted to give them some VIP treatment as a thank you for all the hard work they do. We hope that our donation can help them to continue the great work they do.”

Looking ahead to the 9am opening, he added: “The new team have been working really hard to get the store ready for opening day and we can’t wait to get the doors open Saturday and show customers their new B&M Welshpool.”

Heulwen Trust take disabled children and adults on boat trips along the canal running behind the new store. To date over 69,000 persons with disabilities have enjoyed free daily trips, with their two canal boats in constant demand by special schools, hospitals and more.

B&M is one of the UK’s fastest growing retailers and customers can expect to find a wide variety of branded products including toys, food & drink, home ware, pet products, health & beauty and seasonal ranges.
