The Leader of Powys County Council has praised the efforts of everyone involved in last week’s General Election.

Leader Cllr Rosemarie Harris, said: “Now that the General Election is over, it is only right to acknowledge the efforts of those who have been involved in the election over the last several weeks.

“Firstly, I would like to thank all those residents who voted in yesterday’s election.  Voter turnout in Brecon & Radnorshire was 74% and in Montgomeryshire it was 71.4%, which exceeded the national average.

“In addition, our thanks go to all the election staff for their hard work, commitment and professionalism in delivering one of the country’s most important democratic functions.

“I also would like to congratulate all the candidates who stood in the Brecon & Radnorshire and Montgomeryshire constituencies for their efforts.  All the candidates campaigned hard in their local communities, talking about the issues that most concerned our residents.

“The Cabinet and I now look forward to working with our returning MPs, Chris Davies and Glyn Davies, in the best interests of our county and to deliver real change for the people of Powys.”
