Police have arrested a 65-year-old Shrewsbury man on suspicion of murder following the death of a 67-year-old in Halfway House on Monday.

The man was found at Tony's Diner in Halfway House (pictured), on the A458 between Welshpool and Shrewsbury, and police want to speak to anyone that used the facility on Sunday afternoon or may have seen something suspicious.

The man was found with serious injuries to his head and torso after medics were called at around 4.40pm Monday and a murder investigation was immediately launched.

Detective Inspector Mark Bellamy of West Mercia Police said: “At this time we are not sure what has happened and are trying to determine the man’s movements over the last few days.

“We are keen to speak to anyone that could have any information about the incident, or anyone who was in the area yesterday and saw anyone acting suspiciously.”

The dead man’s next of kin has been informed and a post mortem is due to take place.

Anyone with information is urged to contact West Mercia Police on 101 and quote incident 598s of June 26. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org
