Powys County Council has admitted that they require a new plan to engage with the public in Welshpool and throughout Powys following a tricky time of difficult public relations caused by controversial decisions.

Cabinet Member for Communications, Councillor James Evans, said the cabinet had agreed to, as a priority, to develop a new community engagement plan to strengthen the links between the County Council and local communities.

“It is clear that our communities want to see a change in the way the council and cabinet presents itself to communities,” he said. “It is important that we engage with all our residents, community groups and elected members to meet the challenges we face and shape future direction.

“While online consultations provide valuable feedback I believe that meeting face to face with communities and elected members to discuss matters works even better.

“We are committed to having meaningful conversations with our residents and have already demonstrated that with our commitment to review the operation of household waste centres, something that was a great matter of concern for residents.

“I believe in the best interests of the people of Powys, we must as County Councillors put our political differences aside and work together to help deliver real change for Powys.”
