‘Never seen anything like it before’

Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies will open up this week on the abuse he and his family suffered during the recent General Election.

Mr Davies won a third term in office with an increased majority in June as his Conservative Party won the most seats, despite a dramatic surge from the revitalised Labour party under Jeremy Corbyn.

But the tone of the election across the country was often unpleasant and Mr Davies has admitted that at times it was not nice locally and believes it will put people off running in the future.

Speaking last night, he said: “Just written my column for this week's Oswestry and Border Chronicle. Decided to share my experiences of the abuse I experienced during the General Election. Never seen anything like it before. It has minimal impact on me, but certainly unsettles my family and will put off inexperienced candidates from standing. Shouldn’t be like that.”

Mr Davies took more than 50 per cent of the vote share in June’s election, polling 18,075 votes, up nearly 3,000 from 2015.
