The rabbits are back – and they’re causing big problems at Welshpool’s Maesydre Recreation Ground again.

Welshpool Town Council has historically had problems with rabbits at The Maesydre and until recently had the problem under control but the animals have returned to cause big problems at the sports facility.

“The rabbits infestation has raised its profile again and all area of Wales appear to have a problem,” Town Clerk Robert Robinson said in a report to the council’s Service & Property Committee.

“The rabbits on the grounds are being managed by a pest control operative and although damage is being kept under control on the pitches an area of land between the car park and the Bowling Club is more of an issue. The Bowling Club fence is now moving.

“The issue is how to address the stabilisation of the bank with tree roots embedded in the area where trees have been removed,” he said.

The Town Clerk will prepare options and costs for a future meeting.
