Fed up with cars passing through their village at excessive speeds, the residents of Coedway took the law into their own hands.

Working with Welshpool police, they set up a Community Speed Watch which has caught out a whopping 774 drivers to date.

The staggering figures were revealed on Twitter by Welshpool Police who said: “774 warning letters (have been) sent out and one recent repeat offender (caught).”

They also used the hashtag #its30forareason to enforce their safety message.

Community Speedwatch (CSW) is a national initiative where local communities join with the support of the Police to monitor speeds of vehicles using speed detection devices.

Vehicles exceeding the speed limit are referred to the Police with the aim of educating drivers to reduce their speeds. In cases where education is blatantly ignored and evidence of repeat or excessive offences is collated, enforcement and prosecution follow.
