Storm’s first call-out

16/10/2017 @ 04:42

It is likely to get a lot worse tonight, but Ophelia has already caused chaos in Welshpool!

Sadly, deaths are already being reported in Ireland, but in Welshpool one lane of the one-way was closed to allow fire fighters to access the roof above Boots due to loose slates.

The problem was called in as winds picked up around 1.30pm, but the lads from Welshpool Fire Station had it under control by 4pm.

“There were some delays in the centre of Welshpool due to falling debris from strong winds and loose tiles,” said a station spokesperson. “One fire appliance and an Arial Ladder Platform (ALP) was on the scene to make the area safe for the public.”

High winds are forecasted tonight with the advice to batten down the hatches and secure all loose outside furniture and items.
