Drugs raids on Police Day of Action

Welshpool, Berriew, and Llanymynech all had drug-related raids as part of the 24-hour high visibility campaign, and in Welshpool a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis. Another 31-year-old was arrested in Berriew but no arrests were made in Llanymynech. A number of stop searches were also carried out.
A number of raids were carried out in Newtown and, further south in the county, two warrants were executed in Llandrindod Wells where crystal meth was found in one and a cultivation of cannabis in the other.
Sergeant Ash Brice said: “It’s about making people aware we know who they are and we will target them, because drug misuse leads to other issues such as acquisitive crime, like thefts or burglaries carried out to fund drug habits. We also work with other agencies, such as kaleidoscope, to try to steer people away from drugs and help them get the support they need.”
Thirteen warrants were executed across Powys as part of the force’s #TotalFocus day of action, clamping down on crime that impacts on the vulnerable people in society.
Powys BCU commander Superintendent Jon Cummins said: “Through thorough investigative work, intelligence gathering and community members sharing their concerns with officers in north Powys, we’ve been able to conduct these warrants, helping remove drugs from the streets and sends out a clear message that we take a zero tolerance approach to the misuse and supply of drugs in Dyfed-Powys Police, and we are committed to safeguarding our communities from this kind of behaviour.”
