Powys County Council’s annual garden competition continues to attract high calibre entries and this year was no exception.

Judging took place over the summer and awards were given to local gardeners who featured in the county prizes, as well as the Montgomeryshire awards.

The Powys prizes were awarded to Mr & Mrs Wall, Llanelwedd for the Best Kept Garden and Mr & Mrs Watkins, Sarn for the Best Kept Senior Citizen Garden prize.

Y Berllan, Llangedwyn won the Best Kept Estate in Powys and Clos Ciliau, Llangattock picked up the Best Kept Senior Citizens Estate prize.

Mr W.R.G. Morgan of Pengeulan, Llanidloes won the Best Kept Vegetable Garden in Powys while the Best Hanging Basket or Containers in Powys went to Mr Cox in Brecon.

Shire prizes were also awarded for the following:

Mr R Drayton, Montgomery won the Best Kept Garden in Montgomeryshire.

Cllr Jonathan Wilkinson, Cabinet Member for Housing Services, said: “I would like to congratulate all those who have won prizes but also thank all those who put nominations forward and helped made this year’s competition a great success.

“Judging this year was extremely difficult because of the high quality of the gardens. A lot of tenants have worked hard on their gardens and this year’s competition has recognised their achievements.”
