Welshpool’s forlorn Christmas lights have lit up their last Festive season, and they won’t be permanently replaced.
There may be around 300 days until Christmas, but a combination of time, the harsh weather and new regulations have forced the town to act early and the decision has been taken to rent this year’s lights to avoid a large financial outlay.
New legislation has rendered the town’s current forlorn decorations useless with all public decorations to use LED lights from now on, forcing the council’s hand.
“This year’s lights were on their last legs,” said a town council spokesperson. “The decision has been made to hire from now on so we can literally have brand new lights every year.”
There could also be changes to the location for the Winter Festival forced by the new one-way system which is launched on Monday. More details will be announced later in the year.
