SNOW ALERT: Stay indoors - it's awful out there

Weather forecasters certainly got it right this time – the Welshpool area is at a virtual standstill after heavy snow arrived right on schedule.

Council staff are battling to keep main routes open in the area but country and housing estate roads are blocked and the A458 between Welshpool and Shrewsbury is closed due to fallen power cables at Halfway House.

Dyfed Powys Police are advising against travel. “Terrible road conditions this morning throughout the Dyfed Powys Force area. Don't travel today unless absolutely necessary. Take care if you do need to go out and wrap up warm,” was the message tweeted this morning.

Saturday night revellers found themselves struggling to find a way home but local taxi firm Wright Taxis kept going. Taxi boss Steve Wright went on-line to say they had managed to get everyone safely home.

Events across the area are being cancelled today with bosses on the Welshpool & Llanfair Railway advising against people travelling distances for their Santa Specials. Coedydinas is closed.
