No action against Cllr Chave

The Public Services Ombudsman has decided that no action will be taken against Town Councillor Heather Chave following a social media row over Welshpool’s Boxing Day fox hunting meet.

Cllr Chave was one of the organisers of a peaceful protest at the annual event in the town centre, but tempers boiled over on Facebook in the days after with insults thrown back and forward between those for and against.

The argument got out of hand with Cllr Chave saying she “did not expect the vile and hateful personal comments about me and my family”.

The Councillor apologised for her own remarks on social media, but the Town Council decided she had breached its code of conduct and voted to take complaints against the councillor to the Ombudsman.

However, the issue is now closed.

“The Council accepts the result of the Ombudsman Report with regard to Cllr Heather Chave,” the Town Council said in a statement. “The matter is now closed and the Council looks forward to Heather continuing her great work with us for the Community.”
