Weekend of road and rail disruption

15/02/2018 @ 10:27

It’s going to be a weekend of disruption for road and rail users heading to Shrewsbury this weekend.

Network Rail are taking advantage of the Shrewsbury line being closed for crucial engineering work to undertake major work at Buttington Crossing. It means the road will also be closed from the roundabout to the Leighton turning for the whole weekend.

Diversions will take motorists going both through the Leighton road (pictured).

“Initially the plan was to undertake night time works only and have the road open during the day, however it has come to light that the whole crossing is in need of replacement and this can only be done as a full, continuous closure,” said a Network Rail spokesperson.

“The A458 will therefore be closed from 8pm on Friday through until Monday morning for all vehicles. Network Rail are confident that the A458 will be fully open ahead of Monday morning peak traffic.”

Rail users heading east or west will be put onto replacement buses this weekend. Network Rail said that non-folding bicycles are not allowed on rail replacement bus services at any time. Folding bicycles are allowed if fully folded.
