CCTV captures ‘prolific shoplifters’

Two people described by police as “prolific shoplifters” have been banned from shopping in Welshpool following successful prosecutions.

The pair, one local male and a female from away, were caught helping themselves by CCTV systems positioned inside local shops.

“Both were identified by officers using the stores’ CCTV,” said a police spokesperson last night. “A large number of retail premises in town have installed CCTV systems which assist in providing evidence for crimes committed and allowing officers and staff to identify offenders.”

Earlier in the day, Welshpool Police tweeted: “Two prolific shoplifters have been issued with #StealandBeBanned (#SaBB) notices today. The #SaBB notices are in addition to the sentences received following successful prosecutions. This brings the current total to seven persons banned from retail premises in #Welshpool.”
