New format for Bob Davies Award

10/04/2018 @ 09:34

An award set up by the Farmers Union of Wales (FUW) following the death of a prominent Welshpool man will enjoy a new format this year.

The FUW’s Bob Davies Memorial Award, in memory of the Farmers Weekly Wales correspondent who died in November 2009, is offered to a media personality who has raised the public profile of Welsh farming every year.

Bob, who lived in Welshpool, worked for the national magazine for 44 years and covered a variety of issues affecting rural life during his career, including foot-and-mouth outbreaks and BSE.

Through the award, the FUW recognises the vital role the media play in highlighting farming and rural affairs issues and bringing the countryside closer to those who may not be directly involved with the industry.

The winner for 2018 will be announced at the FUW President’s reception on the Wednesday evening of the Royal Welsh Show.

“If you can think of someone who has gone above and beyond to raise the profile of farming in Wales - either directly or in a supporting role - then let us know,” said a spokesperson.

The deadline for nominations is June 29, and they can be sent to anne.birkett@fuw.org.uk.
