Welshpool’s bid to become one of the most accessible towns in Wales will enlist the help of its residents.

With 30% of the town aged over 65 and one in four residents said to be classed with a ‘long term illness’, the need for Welshpool to do more has become ever more pressing.

And now a Town Council plan has been formulated under the guidance of Cllr Folkert Veenstra, who himself is wheelchair-bound.

The plan has addressed a number of areas that need to be looked at with recommendations put forward.

“The Town Council is proposing to adopt an 'access for all' plan seeking to ensure that all we do is inclusive for everyone,” a spokesperson told us.

The plan can be found on the Council web site at A copy can also be gained from the Tourist Information Centre.

All comments welcome by email or in writing to Triangle House Union Street Welshpool SY21 7P must be submitted by April 30. The final plan will be published in May.
