Key official to leave football club

Technogroup Welshpool Football Club will lose another key administrator after Club Secretary Liam Pritchard announced that he is stepping down at the end of the season.

It follows a tumultuous season for the club which is adrift at the foot of the Huws Gray Alliance and has continued to operate despite persistent rumours over its financial state.

The club has had points deducted for administrative hitches and its chairman stepped down mid-season, but, despite this, manager Chris Herbert has kept matters respectable on the pitch.

However, the loss of Pritchard will be a blow as the club will no doubt look to re-group in the Mid Wales set-up next term.

He explained: “My wife is due to give birth and, as a result, I'm taking a step back from football to focus on the family. This means I'm stepping down as secretary of Welshpool FC at the end of the season and encourage anyone with an interest in football who may not currently be involved with the club to apply.

“I’m not leaving the club completely, I still intend to be an active member of the committee and attend as many games as I can. So I'll always be on hand to advise and assist the new secretary any time they need me. We just want to throw it open to try and attract new blood to the club.”

Mr Pritchard said the club is on a stronger financial footing and doesn’t foresee any problems in reaching the end of the current season but as for next season he said: “Next year is anyone's guess!”
