Newtown were put to the sword in the Shropshire Premier League, suffering a 150-run defeat at Sentinel Cricket Club.

After putting the hosts in, Newtown suffered a long day in the field with Sentinel declaring on 253-6 after 48 overs.

Tom Goodman (42) got Newtown off to a good start in reply, but wickets fell rapidly and they ended their afternoon on 103 all out.

Welshpool frustrated Shelton by holding out on 131-8 after being set 186-6 to chase in Division One. Skipper Russell Cadwallader provided the dogged resistance with an unbeaten 39 to earn his side eight points against the promotion chasers.

There were big wins for both Guilsfield and Llanidloes in Division Four after both set big targets.

A depleted Montgomery team succumb to a 72-run defeat against table-topping Ellesmere in Division Two.

Montgomery restricted the Meresiders to little over 90 runs after 30 overs but a period of aggressive batting from Tom Davies (72), Ashley Thomas (42) and Kieran Barry (39) saw the visitors finish 206-9 after 45 overs. Rob Yewdall managed to return decent figures of 3-27 off 12 overs.

In reply Montgomery were all out for 134, with last week’s hero Ieuan Griffiths (45) falling five runs short of his half century when caught on the boundary going for a six. Ruff-Cock contributed with 25 while the other of last week’s star performers, Andrew Barker, was clean bowled for 20.

Guilsfield are second in the table after opener Gary Lewis (52) led the way towards a first innings total of 226-7 at Coton Hall. The bowlers then played their part by reducing the hosts to 101 all out with three wickets each for Sam Griffiths and Gary West.

In-form Llanidloes posted 181-8 at Beacon with openers William Denham (80) and Geraint Evans (70) leading the way. In reply, all-rounder Adrian Foulkes took 5-31 as Beacon were restricted to 92 all out.

Meanwhile in Reserve Division One, Montgomery II lost by six wickets to Shelton II.

Montgomery batted first and posted a respectable 153-8, with Matthew Jones scoring his first half century for the club as he finished 70 not out. Batsman, Keelan Serjeant, impressed on debut but ultimately Montgomery finished 50 runs short of what was probably required on a good batting track.

Shelton Seconds claimed victory in the 32nd over for the loss of just four overs. Keith Griffiths starred with the ball, taking 2-23 off nine overs.

Newtown II posted a respectable 202-6 in their Reserve Division Two match at home to Lilleshall II who held out on 131-8.

In Reserve Division Four, Welshpool II looked set for victory after Ellesmere II could only make 105-6 from their 40 overs. But the visitors found runs tough to find and fell short on 89 all out, despite 25 from Jordan Harding.
