Flooding closes Minor Injuries Unit

Welshpool Hospital has been hit hard by the morning’s floods, the likes of which we haven’t seen for many years in the town centre.

While its main ward is unaffected with patients being cared for as normal, it has been forced to close its birth centre with midwifery cases being diverted to Newtown.

It has also closed its Minor Injuries Unit temporarily, but officials say they hope to provide an update on this service later today.

The kitchen has also been closed, with patients being delivered meals from Newtown Hospital.

“Patients are advised to call NHS Direct 0845 4647, use the A&E Department at Shrewsbury Hospital or in life threatening medical situations, call 999,” a spokesperson said.

The floods have caused widespread chaos, with the annual Music Festival being cancelled and many homes at the bottom of the hills in town being flooded.
