A 52-year-old Welshpool man has been jailed for 18 months today after a late night sex attack on a mother while her young child screamed.

Simon Dean Thomas, 52, was drunk after a night out and forced his way into his victim’s home, grabbing her wrist and hair and sexually assaulting her.

The Daily Post is reporting that Mold Crown Court heard the attack was so frightening the victim now becomes “a nervous wreck” when she sees a postman, has suffered depression and says she has “lost all trust in men”.

Thomas, of Brookfield Road, pleaded guilty to a charge of sexual assault and was sentenced to 18 months in prison by Judge Rhys Rowlands.

The court heard Thomas, a postman, had bumped into the woman in a pub in Welshpool on the evening of Saturday, January 21.

David Maidstone, prosecuting, said at one point Thomas put his hands in the pocket of her jeans and she told him “to behave”.

The woman went home and got into bed. Thomas began banging on her door during the early hours of the following day sometime after 1am.

“He said he had come to see her. He put his foot in the door and banged it wide open,” Mr Maidstone said.

“He grabbed her by the wrist and her hair and started twisting her hair.

“She told him to stop and she kept trying to get him out through the door, but he kept slamming it open. Her daughter who was on the stairs started screaming,” he said.

Eventually the victim managed to force Thomas out of her home and police were alerted later.

Judge Rowlands said: “This is a serious offence committed in the victim’s home, in the early hours of the morning and is far too serious to be dealt with other than a custodial sentence.”

Thomas was also given a restraining order not to approach the victim for five years and has to register as a sex offender.
