Caring is a job for life
According to official statistics Wales has the fastest growing proportion of older people in the UK – by 2039 there will be 44% more people aged 65 and over compared to 2014.
Peter Angelides (pictured), Managing Director at Abacare, which provides care across Welshpool, said: “As a nation we have an ageing population and this means the care sector is rapidly expanding and as people will always need care in their old age, there will always be jobs available to people to provide this, meaning the care industry is one of very few sectors that can offer the real possibility of a job for life.
“In this day and age many jobs are insecure with companies falling into administration regularly, meaning people often have to retrain elsewhere and often in a different industry, but with the care industry this is simply not the case as we will always need caregivers as the cycle of care continues into the foreseeable future.
“Being a carer is a highly skilled, professional vocational occupation that is essential to the fabric of our society and the beauty of a job for life means people can start at the very bottom and work their way up with training and qualifications.”
