Church consultation underway

16/07/2018 @ 11:07

A six-week consultation has been launched about exciting new plans for St Nicholas’ Church in Montgomery.

The plans are on display in the Church and in Montgomery Library until August 29, with the Church Committee consulting the community on its proposals for a major capital project to make it a more useful resource for the town.

The proposal is to create welcoming spaces and interpretation for tourist visitors, and to ensure the building is more user-friendly for the current congregation.

The Church Committee plans to make an application to the Heritage Lottery Fund for around £300,000.

The money would be spent on creating a host of new facilities including a mezzanine structure at the West End of the Nave and a 2-storey independent soundproof structure in the North Transept. It is also proposed to glaze the wooden porch on the North entrance to reduce heat loss and create a more welcoming entrance space to the building.

The plans are available here and the survey can be done here.
