Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on
Monday 14th March 2011.
 
OTMS (29)
A reduced number of OTM’s sold very well to a market average of 115ppkg for the cows and 142.9ppkg for the heifers under 48months. CV & EM Lewis Garth Vaughan sold a Limousin cow weighing 816kg and achieving £1256.64 per head. D W & L M Jones Bwlch sold a Limousin cow weighing 784kg and making £1042.72 per head. TM & EE & TG Williams Nantygeifr sold two British Blue heifers under 48months to £1035.30 and £948.28. CV & EM Lewis Garth Vaughan receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the Highest Price older cow sold on the day.
 
FAT CATTLE (4)
Only 4 fat cattle on offer, sold to an average of 153ppkg for the steers and 147ppkg for the heifers. Cream Team Ltd sold a fat steer to172ppkg and a heifer to 156ppkg. R L G Edwards Trewylan Dairy sold a steer and a heifer to 137ppkg and 140ppkg respectively. Cream Team Ltd receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25.
 
PRIME HOGGETS (5348)
An entry of 5348 prime hoggets, selling to a fantastic average of 201.53ppkg. 
Super Lights (12) to 176ppkg from J L Jones Llanrhys. Average of 176ppkg.
Lights (215) to 200ppkg from L V Higgs Sybwll. Others to 195 ppkg from DE & GV Jones Dolfrwynog. Average of 185ppkg.
Standards (743) to 233ppkg from C Lloyd Stone Cottage. Others to 228ppkg from M P Harding Lower Cefnypwll. Average of 197ppkg.
Mediums (2389) to 230ppkg from C Jones Meadow Croft. Others to 228ppkg from CL & C Watkins Bank Farm. Average of 203.65ppkg.
Heavies (1453) to 213ppkg from R Richard & Co Maenllengen. Other to 206ppkg from G Ratcliffe Whixall Hall. Average of ppkg.
Over Weights (380) 198ppkg from JR & RM & JPR Andrew Bronheulog and CJ & LM Davies Lawns Farm and Lythwood SheepLtd. Others to 195ppkg from J H Hockenhull Dairy Farm. Average of 187ppkg.
 
CULL EWE (1377)
A tremendous trade was seen for the 1377 cull sheep on offer. Ewes averaged £74.20 per head and cull rams £80.16 per head. 256 sheep sold for over £100 per head. W R P Jones Ysguboriau sold ewes to £156 per head which topped the market. CV & EM Lewis Garth Vaughan sold ewes to £148 per head. E L Evans & Co The Green sold ewes to £140 per head. Rams topped the market at £148 per head from I T Jerman Oakfields. T K Robinson Tynewydd sold cull rams to £136 per head.   
 
STORE EWES & STORE LAMBS(402)
A small entry of 93 store lambs selling up to £66.50. Suffolkx tup lambs topped the sale at £66.50 from Wilkes Gwernfyda Foel and theave lambs selling to £63 per head. Wether Lambs were up to £55 per head from C Lloyd Coedydinas Welshpool. Mixed and Clean lambs reached £42 from S & S Hayward 18 Llys Eglwys Newtown. Overall average was £40.22. Sale of Store lambs to commence at 10.30am.
Couples
A total of 101 couples entered the market this week selling to an average of £97.87. As found mule ewes with twins lambs at foot topped the market at £120 from WA & EM Morris Maestanygwylden Penybont. A special entry of 100 couples are expected next week, 21st March 2011. with the sale to commence at approx 11am after the store store lambs.
Cade Lambs
51 cade lambs were sold today selling to an average of £13.33. Texel theave cade lamb topped the sale at £20 from J V Davies Penygraig Penybont. Sale of cade lambs to commence at 11.30am to follow the sale of couples. 
DAIRY COWS
An entry of 6 dairy cattle met with a similar trade to recently. A Sandy Valley Bloton heifer from K Howells Y Ddol which was giving 30kg a day made £1700, whilst a similar heifer from the same place sold for £1680. T G Phillips & CO Burgedin sold a heifer for £1700 sired by Holmeland Lake and giving28 litres a day. J A Phillips sold a heifer for £1290, whilst a British Friesian heifer from A P Jones & Son Gwerniago made £935.
