Shock footage of a Powys County Council committee chairman apparently nodding off during a meeting last Thursday have been revealed on Facebook.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Pete Roberts of Llandrindod has recently been at the centre of a row over his position as chairman of the council’s Learning, Skills And Economy Scrutiny panel.

It is believed to have been his first official meeting in the chair following his controversial reinstatement after revealing he had high functioning Autism and Asperger.

Fellow councillors had voted him down for poor attendance but the Liberal Democrat Group won his reinstatement on a legal challenge.

Footage of the scrutiny committee meeting were posted on the social media site on Sunday by Newtown Conservative Councillor Mark Barnes. It shows the councillor apparently having to be alerted by a council officer.

“I was very saddened to have had this video sent to me. It's not mine but I have asked if I can share it because this behaviour should stop,” said Councillor Barnes.

“Every member and officer within every council should take their role very seriously and this is further evidence that this is not always the case.

“After much controversy, Cllr Pete Roberts retained his senior salary and his chairmanship. This was his first  meeting since officially resuming his role. Not an acceptable start, in my view."
