MyWelshpool and MyNewtown have launched an exciting new tie-up with the Local Democracy Reporting Service which will further strengthen the local news service that we are able to provide to you.

The launch coincides with our eighth birthday this week and it is a significant development as we strive to deliver high quality local news from throughout the Severn Valley to our tens of thousands of regular readers.

Our editorial team is already made up of several experienced journalists and editors who have worked in the area most of their careers. The Local Democracy Service strengthens our commitment to providing good local journalism at a time when the conventional media is facing uncertainty.

Our aim is to bring you up-to-date, unbiased news.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service has created up to 150 new journalism jobs to help fill a gap in the reporting of local democracy issues across the UK.

The journalists are funded by the BBC as part of its latest Charter commitment but are employed by regional news organisations.

These experienced journalists will be covering top-tier local authorities and other public service organisations and will be providing their stories for us to deliver to you.

“We are thrilled to have been recognised by the Local Democracy Reporting Service as one of their news providers, and look forward to building a close relationship that will expand our local news coverage and cement our position as the hyperlocal news provider for north Powys,” said Owain Betts, a partner with MyTown Media Ltd.

We first launched MyWelshpool on Friday, August 13, 2010, with MyNewtown following in December of that year.
