Shopping around for Iceland replacement

Welshpool Town Council is still negotiating with several big high street brands about filling the big town centre holes left by the departures of Iceland and Natwest, we can confirm.

The supermarket said farewell to Welshpool earlier this week, deciding not to renew its Puzzle Square tenancy.

And with Welshpool in the running to win the Great British High Street Award, the Town Council has confirmed that it is making proactive efforts to fill the vacancies.

“We are continuing to talk with major high street retailers to convince them that Welshpool is a town that would welcome them with open arms,” said Robert Robinson, Town Clerk.

“We also want to listen to them to understand what it might take to bring them here. We are confident that we will fill the odd empty unit or two that we have.”

Welshpool has been shortlisted in the Champion category for the Awards, which aims to find the UK’s best high street. After a rigorous selection process, Welshpool High Street was chosen by an independent judging panel as one of 26 streets to be shortlisted for the award.
