Saved! Llanfair Caereinion Carnival will continue
The event brought in the crowds this summer, but we reported last month that the annual meeting had to be abandoned due to a lack of people stepping forward to fill vacant positions on the committee.
But this morning we can confirm that a wave of support has come through to save the day at an emergency meeting, with the 2019 Carnival going ‘Back to the 80’s’!
“It is a very broad theme and it could go anywhere!” said the new Chair, Nikki Peate, taking over from Sam Webster who will continue on the new committee.
“New volunteers attended the meeting which was held in the Black Lion, and it has led to the Carnival being able to continue in 2019.
“We say a fond farewell to Beth King (Treasurer) who served on the committee for five years and has resigned to pursue other ventures. A massive thank-you to Beth as she was a great asset to the Carnival, we wish her luck in her new endeavours.
“We would also like to thank our other members that resigned who also contributed a lot of their time and without them it would have been a struggle - Rowena Huxley, Catherine Lewis and Paul Burns.”
Kait Duerden has now taken up the role of Secretary and Cheri Angland will be counting the money. Other new members include Keilly Cornell, Mel Bird, Paul Wixey and Stephen Purser, and other original committee members that are continuing are Alan Webster and Beth Peate, as well as Sam.
“All those that contacted us and pledged to help are now part of the Carnival Group including Nat Gee, Bob Lowri, Ann Jones, Trudy Gethin, Andrew Watkin, Mel and Louisa Jones, Kate Roberts, Nic and Ian Davies, Gareth and Rhiannon Jones, Beth King, and Paul Burns,” she added.
