Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on
Monday 21st March 2011.
 
OTMS (42)
An entry of 42 OTM cattle presented for sale. JG & SE Robinson Cefndu presented a Limousin cow weighing 777kg and achieving £1142.19. E E Wilson & Sons Tyn yr Ynn presented a Limousin cow to £968.76 per head. G Vaughan & Co Cwmrhiwdre sold a Limousin bull weighing 790kg and making £948 per head. JG & SE Robinson Cefndu receives the Briarwood Products Ltd of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day.
 
FAT CATTLE (20)
An entry of 20 fat cattle sold to a market average of 170ppkg for the steers and 168ppkg for the heifers. D Jones Glebe Farm sold four fat heifers to a top price of 193ppkg which was bought by M J Birtwistle & Co. C J Davies Waengwyn sold two fat steers to 174ppkg and 169ppkg. D Jones Glebe Farm receives the Briarwood Products Ltd Price of £25 for the highest ppkg animal sold on the day.
 
PRIME HOGGETS (4575)
An entry of 4575 prime hoggets, selling to a fantastic average of 208.68ppkg.  
Super Lights (46) to 191ppkg from LLwynbaedd Farms Ltd. Average of 186ppkg.
Lights (180) to 217ppkg from S & A Perkins Upper Farm. Others to 210 SM & GD Jones Rhiwhiriaeth.  Average of 197ppkg.
Standards (739) to 226ppkg from J Davies Green Farm. Others to 225ppkg from J Edwards Mount Farm. Average of 202.89ppkg.
Mediums (1760) to 241ppkg from Lythwood Sheep Ltd. Others to 240ppkg from CJ & LM Davies Lawns Farm. Average of 211ppkg.
Heavies (1494) to 213ppkg from CJ & LM Davies Lawns Farm. Other to 210ppkg from D I Roberts & Son Stingwern. Average of 201.32ppkg.
Over Weights (262) to 194ppkg from CJ & LM Davies Lawns Farm. Others to 192ppkg from Lythwood Sheep Ltd. Average of 178ppkg.
 
CULL EWE (1520)
An entry of 1520 cull sheep sold well to average at £66.11 for the ewes and £79.74 for the Rams. D C Jerman Ty Gwellt sold ewes to a top market price of £148 per head. W O Jones & Son Friathwen sold ewes to £135 per head. G & A Orrells Middle LLegodig sold a cull ram to £140 per head. Weekly sale of Cull ewes and rams to immediately follow the sale of Fat hoggets. 
 
STORE EWES & STORE LAMBS
A tidy entry of 200 store lambs entered the market this week, selling to an average of £52.52. Suffolk tup lambs topped the sale at £82 from M A Jones & Son Pentre Hall Churchstoke. Mule Mixed and clean lambs sold to £68 from G W Jones Henfryn Caersws. Mule whether lambs also reached £68 from Messers Harding Pantygesail Clatter. Texel theave lambs made £67 from A & J Watson The Rhos Farm Llanbadarn Fynydd. Overall the trade was sharper compared to the last few weeks. Weekly sale of Store lambs will commence at 10.30am.
Couples
A quality entry of 224 couples where offered for sale, selling to an overall average of £107.75, trade was considerably sharper due to the weather. Texel as found ewes with twin lambs at foot topped the sale at £182 from Aberystwyth University. Mule as found ewes with twin lambs at foot reached £146 from D & M Cooke Coppice Farm. A Mule ewe with strong twin lambs at foot sold to £153 from E J Lewis Rhoslas. Couples are expected every week with the sale to commence after the store lambs at approx 100 flock aged mules with twin and sinlges at foot and as found welsh and speckled ewes with twins and singles at foot.
In Lambs ewes
A small entry on In Lamb ewes. Four year old welsh ewes scanned in lamb with Triplets to Suffolk and Welsh tup sold to £130 from G E Davies & Sons Bryndulais Charollais in lamb ewe lambs sold to £91.   
Cade Lambs
73 Cade Lambs entered the market this week selling to a fantastic average of £14.29. A ram cade lamb topped the sale at £22 from F J Owens & Son Lletygynfach Forden. Sale of cade lambs next week to commence at approx 11.45am the couples.
