Railway talk this Monday

12/10/2018 @ 10:47

An insight into one of the most luxurious train journeys on the planet will be delivered by the speaker at Monday’s meeting of the Friends of the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway.

The famous ‘Blue Train’, running for more than 950 miles over two days from Cape Town to Pretoria, may cost around £1,000+ for a single journey, but local people in and around Welshpool can get a glimpse of the fabulous veld scenery of South Africa and of its trains much more cheaply at the Welshpool Area Group gathering!

Simon Bowden, who is a senior volunteer driver on the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway and the organiser of the railway’s Thames Valley Area Group, will give a talk on Railways of South Africa and Zimbabwe on Monday.

The meeting has been organised by the Welshpool Area Group as part of its Autumn and early Winter series of meetings.

It will be held in the Welshpool Town Council Chamber beginning at 7.30pm, and non-members as well as members are welcome to attend. A donation of £3 to cover costs is requested and there will be light refreshments and a raffle.

Further details are available from Streve Page, Vice-Chairman on 01686 650102.
